Neoclassicism developed in the years from 1780 to 1830. Its works are distinguished by straight-lined forms and contours, and its most important stylistic trait is the imitation of Antiquity. The Liebieghaus’s Neoclassicist sculptures are accordingly on display in the Antiquity department. Our present-day understanding of Classical Greek and Roman art is strongly influenced by the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The most prominent example is Johann Heinrich von Dannecker’s Ariadne on the Panther.
